Hawaii is the nearest state to New Zealand, and the one where our usual chocolate advice has the least to say.
On the mainland we tell people to wait for the cooler months. Hawaii does not really have them. So instead of choosing a month, choose a box that does not mind the heat.
A box that travels well in island heat
The New Zealand biscuit tin is a strong place to start. Gingernuts are famously hard, Anzac biscuits are oats and golden syrup, and neither cares what the thermometer says.
Lollies come next. Pineapple Lumps are chocolate coated, so they are the one to risk, but most of the lolly aisle is chewy or boiled and travels with no fuss.
Then something savoury. A sealed bag of New Zealand crisps cares about the heat even less than a biscuit does.
Where the day line sits
Auckland and Honolulu share almost the same clock. The difference is the date. When you order on a Sunday afternoon in Hawaii, it is already Monday in Auckland, and the working week has started.
That matters most around birthdays and holidays. Count back from the date you need, allow for dispatch, transit and customs, then add a day for the date line.
Honolulu is also one of the few American cities with both a nonstop flight to Auckland and a New Zealand Consulate-General, so for New Zealanders in Hawaii, home is closer than anywhere else in the country.
Same rate as the mainland
Hawaii pays our standard United States rate, with nothing added for the ocean. One rate covers the first 2 kg, so fill the box before you check out.
Chocolate and the weather
Build the box around biscuits, lollies and crisps.
Parcels travel unrefrigerated and we cannot control temperatures after dispatch, so chocolate sent to Hawaii may arrive soft in any month, and melted chocolate is not refunded. Biscuits, lollies, crisps and spreads cope with the heat without complaint.

What to send to Hawaii
Picked for this trip, not a bestseller list. One line on each says why it earns its place in the box.
A hard, snappy biscuit that heat cannot hurt. Made for dunking.
Feijoa is the fruit every New Zealander grew up with. Almost nobody outside the country has tasted one.
Small batch crisps from Nelson. Salt and vinegar that bites back.
Pic's peanut butter, sealed in a jar and indifferent to the weather.
Ordered most often to the United States
Built from real orders sent anywhere in the United States, refreshed daily. No names, no numbers, just what leaves Auckland for the United States most often.
One rate covers the first 2 kg
Your DHL Express rate follows the weight of the box, not where in the United States it is going. A half full box costs the same to send as a full one, so the trick is filling it well. Above 2 kg a step rate applies per 0.5 kg, and the exact figure shows at checkout once you enter your address.
Import charges are set by the United States, not by us
They are the same everywhere in the United States, and they do not change because your address is in Hawaii. We never add them to your price and we do not try to predict them. The only reliable source is U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Do you charge extra to ship to Hawaii +
No. Hawaii is part of our United States zone, so it pays the same rate as the mainland. One rate covers the first 2 kg, then a step rate applies per half kilogram above that. The exact figure shows at checkout once you enter your address.
Can I order chocolate to Hawaii at all +
You can, and plenty of people do, but it is a gamble in any month. Parcels travel unrefrigerated, so a block may arrive soft or melted, and melted chocolate is not refunded. If you want to try, chocolate coated biscuits hold up better than a solid block, and a parcel collected promptly has the best chance.
What is feijoa +
A small green fruit, tart and fragrant, that grows in back gardens all over New Zealand. It tastes a little like pineapple, guava and mint at once. The sour feijoa lollies are the easiest way to try the flavour without the fruit.
