Texas has a closer connection to New Zealand than most people expect, and a tougher climate for chocolate than almost anywhere we send.

Houston is one of a handful of American cities with a nonstop flight to Auckland. Dallas has another for part of the year. If you have flown that route, you may already know what a bag of Pineapple Lumps is for.
The long summer
The honest advice for Texas is to plan around the heat rather than fight it. From April to October, leave the chocolate out and fill the box with things that do not melt.
A kilo jar of Pic’s peanut butter is a good anchor. Add a packet or two of biscuits, some lollies and a bag of truffle and sea salt crisps, and you have a summer box built for the heat.
When the weather turns in November, the chocolate aisle opens up. That is the time to send a Whittaker’s block to Austin, Dallas or San Antonio.
Distance does not change the price
Texas is more than twice the size of New Zealand, and none of that distance shows up at checkout. The rate follows the weight of the box. One rate covers the first 2 kg, so a parcel to El Paso costs the same as one to Houston, and the way to get value from it is to fill it.

Parcels travel unrefrigerated, and a Texas doorstep between April and October will soften chocolate fast. Melted chocolate is not refunded. Biscuits, lollies, crisps and spreads handle the heat, so build summer boxes around them.
