In Erie and across northwest Pennsylvania, honeycomb toffee in chocolate is sponge candy. In New Zealand the toffee is hokey pokey, and it goes into ice cream, biscuits and blocks. A Crunchie is the closest single bar, and the Whittaker’s Hokey Pokey block is the New Zealand version in a block.
When to order
Philadelphia summers are humid, and chocolate does not enjoy them. From June to September, send lollies, biscuits and crisps. From October, the chocolate aisle opens up again.

How is New Zealand milk chocolate different ＋
Most people notice it straight away. New Zealand milk chocolate is built around a creamier, less sugary profile than most American bars, and the difference is clearest in a plain block. Taste the plain one first and the flavoured ones make more sense.
Is hokey pokey the same as sponge candy ＋
Very nearly. Both are honeycomb toffee, made by stirring baking soda into hot syrup so it sets full of bubbles. Sponge candy is usually coated in chocolate. In New Zealand, hokey pokey appears plain, in chocolate, in biscuits and in ice cream.
