New Zealand Chocolate Blocks

Why New Zealand buys by the block

New Zealanders buy chocolate by the block: a flat slab scored into squares, made for breaking up and passing round, or for working through a row at a time on your own. Whittaker’s, New Zealand’s own chocolate maker, fills most of this shelf. Start with Creamy Milk 33% and work outwards, to Hokey Pokey Crunch on the milk side or Dark Ghana 72% on the dark. The Whittaker’s page has the full flavour guide. The Cadbury blocks sold in New Zealand fill the next stretch, with Caramilk among them.

Sending blocks home

Blocks are flat and pack neatly, and one shipping rate covers the first 2 kg of an order, with a step rate per 0.5 kg above that. Parcels travel unrefrigerated, so if you are heading into a hot summer, stock up in a cooler month instead: melted chocolate is not refunded.

Common questions

Delivery, tracking and customs are on the FAQ page.

Whittaker's or Cadbury, which block should I choose +

If the block is for a Kiwi, send one of each. Whittaker's Creamy Milk 33% is the everyday Whittaker's block, and Cadbury Caramilk is a flavour all of its own. Two blocks cost no more to ship than one while the order stays inside the first 2 kg. See Caramilk →

Which blocks are named after places in New Zealand +

Whittaker's Marlborough Sea Salt & Caramel Brittle, Fijian Ginger & KeriKeri Mandarin, West Coast Buttermilk Caramelised White, Wellington Roasted Supreme Coffee, and New Zealand Black Plum and Roasted Almonds. They are harder to find outside New Zealand than the everyday blocks, so they suit someone who already knows the standard flavours. See Marlborough Sea Salt & Caramel Brittle →

Are the no sugar added blocks sugar free +

They are labelled no sugar added, which is a different claim from sugar free. It describes what went into making the block, and ingredients like milk can still carry sugars of their own. The Equal and Well Naturally blocks are the ones labelled this way, so read the ingredient list and nutrition panel on each product page.
