North Carolina runs from the Blue Ridge to the Outer Banks, and a chocolate parcel has a different day at each end.

The mountains

Asheville, Boone and Blowing Rock sit high enough to take the edge off summer. They get a longer chocolate season than the rest of the state, starting in early autumn and running well into spring. A dark salted caramel block is a good first order for a cool mountain evening.

The Piedmont

Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill have long, humid summers, and a doorstep there is no place for chocolate from May to September. Build those boxes from crisps, lollies and biscuits, then switch to the chocolate aisle in October.

The coast

The coastal plain adds hurricane season. From June to November, check the forecast before ordering. A storm can hold up a parcel for days, and those days are spent in the heat. Once it has passed, order as usual.

Chocolate and the weather

Chocolate from October to April in the Piedmont. Longer in the mountains.

Parcels travel unrefrigerated. Charlotte and Raleigh summers are long and muggy, and a doorstep there is no place for a block, so May to September suits crisps, lollies and biscuits there. In the mountains, chocolate is a fair order into late spring and again from early autumn.

What to send to North Carolina

Picked for this trip, not a bestseller list. One line on each says why it earns its place in the box.

Dark chocolate with salted caramel. A mountain order for the cooler months.

Thick cut crisps with sea salt. They travel to the coast in any season.

Sour fruit lollies from Mayceys. Chewy and heat tolerant, so a safe summer pick.

Coconut biscuits with a chocolate coat. An autumn order for the Piedmont.

Ordered most often to the United States

Built from real orders sent anywhere in the United States, refreshed daily. No names, no numbers, just what leaves Auckland for the United States most often.

One rate covers the first 2 kg

Your DHL Express rate follows the weight of the box, not where in the United States it is going. A half full box costs the same to send as a full one, so the trick is filling it well. Above 2 kg a step rate applies per 0.5 kg, and the exact figure shows at checkout once you enter your address.

Import charges are set by the United States, not by us

They are the same everywhere in the United States, and they do not change because your address is in North Carolina. We never add them to your price and we do not try to predict them. The only reliable source is U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Is it safe to send chocolate to Asheville in summer +

Safer than to Charlotte or Raleigh, but still a gamble in July and August. Parcels travel unrefrigerated, and a sunny doorstep can soften a block even in the mountains. Melted chocolate is not refunded.

What happens to coastal deliveries during a hurricane +

When a storm closes coastal roads, courier routes stop until they reopen, and a parcel waits at the depot in the meantime. From June to November, check the forecast for the Outer Banks and the coastal plain before you order.
