The Gold Coast is the one place on this list where we spend more of the page telling you what not to order than what to order.
That is not a lack of enthusiasm. It is the climate. This is the warmest and most humid destination in our Australian set, and the warm season runs long. The last few hours of a parcel’s journey happen on a doorstep in that weather. A chocolate block can leave Auckland in perfect condition, clear customs in two days, and still be ruined in the final afternoon.
So build the box out of things that do not mind
The good news is that most of a New Zealand supermarket does not mind at all.
Hard lollies like Minties are close to heatproof. Sealed jars, spreads and sauces are unbothered. Chips take up plenty of room without adding weight. Powdered drink sachets weigh almost nothing and survive anything. That is four aisles before you get anywhere near a chocolate block, and it is most of what people actually miss.
If you want chocolate, June through August is the window, and even then it is worth a thought. Our terms say melted chocolate is not refunded, and we would rather you knew that before ordering than after.
About the number on this page
Every other city page here quotes a count for that city. No equivalent Gold Coast figure is published, so this page quotes Queensland and labels it as Queensland. Estimating one would have been easy and would have been invented. The Wattie’s sauce below needs no such caveat.
Queensland has 208,572 residents born in New Zealand. That is the largest of any Australian state, ahead of New South Wales on 118,527.
The Raro sachets are worth singling out here, because they solve the specific Gold Coast problem better than anything else does. They weigh almost nothing, so a dozen of them barely register against the 2 kg allowance. Nothing about heat or humidity touches them. And they are one of the New Zealand things with no Australian equivalent at all. They are worth the trip rather than a substitute for something local.

Why do you quote a Queensland figure rather than a Gold Coast one ＋
Because that is the number that is actually published. The census releases a New Zealand-born count for Queensland and for Greater Brisbane, but not for the Gold Coast in the same series. We would rather quote the figure that exists than estimate one that does not.
