More New Zealanders live in Brisbane than in any other Australian city. At the last census, 111,649 Greater Brisbane residents were born in New Zealand, which is 4.4% of everyone here and more than Sydney or Melbourne.

So the demand is real, and the honest answer to a search for a Kiwi shop in Brisbane is that the shop is in Auckland and it posts. An order leaving on a Monday is usually here by Wednesday or Thursday.

The weather changes what is worth sending

This is where Brisbane genuinely differs from Melbourne, and it is not a small difference.

Brisbane is subtropical. The warm season is long, and the humidity is the part people underestimate. A parcel that sits on a doorstep for a January afternoon is in a situation no chocolate block recovers from. Speed does not fix it. The parcel can arrive in two days and still spend three hours in the sun at the end.

So the sensible Brisbane order is built out of things that do not care: biscuits, spreads, chips, and the hard end of the lolly aisle. A Shrewsbury arrives in February exactly as it arrives in July.

Chocolate is a winter order. If you want a Whittaker’s block, put it on the list for June and send something else now. We would rather tell you that than take the order and refund nothing when it melts, which is what our terms say we do.

Why these four

There is no Brisbane order history here worth quoting, and a fabricated one would be worse than silence. So the list is chosen on one test only: will it arrive in the condition it left in, in February. All four pass, including the peanut butter.

The Marmite deserves its own note in Brisbane, because the mistake is so easy to make. The jar on an Australian shelf with that name on it is the British product. The one New Zealanders actually want is Sanitarium’s, which is milder and thicker and spreads differently. Buying the wrong one is a common and quietly disappointing experience, and it is one of the better reasons to order from the source.

Chocolate and the weather

The hardest climate on this list for anything with chocolate in it.

Brisbane is subtropical. Summer humidity does as much damage as the heat does, and the warm season runs long. Biscuits, hard lollies, spreads and chips arrive in good condition all year. Chocolate is a winter order here, and even then worth a thought.

Good picks for Brisbane

Chosen for this city and this climate, not a bestseller list.

Jam and biscuit, no chocolate to lose. Arrives the same in February as it does in July.

A sealed jar does not care what a Queensland summer is doing.

The New Zealand jar, not the British one. Travels through anything.

Hard chewy mint. One of the few sweets that genuinely does not mind the heat.

Ordered most often, everywhere

Not enough orders have gone to Brisbane yet to show what is popular there specifically, so this is what the whole shop orders most.

One rate covers the first 2 kg

Your DHL Express rate to Brisbane follows the weight of the box, not the distance. A half full box costs the same to send as a full one, so the trick is filling it well. Above 2 kg a step rate applies per 0.5 kg, and the exact figure shows at checkout once you enter your address.

Import charges are set by the Australian government, never added by us. If anything is owed, DHL contacts you before delivery. The current rules are on the Australian Border Force site.

Delivery to Brisbane

How long does delivery to Brisbane take

Typically 1 to 3 business days with DHL Express once your order leaves Auckland, with dispatch inside 1 to 2 business days of payment. These are carrier estimates rather than guarantees.

Should I order chocolate to Brisbane

In winter, yes. Between about October and April, we would rather you did not. Parcels travel unrefrigerated, we cannot control temperatures after dispatch, and melted chocolate is not refunded. Biscuits, spreads, chips and hard lollies are the sensible year-round order here.

Do you have a shop in Brisbane

No. We are an online store in Auckland. Everything is packed there and posted to you, which is why the range is a New Zealand supermarket range rather than an importer's shortlist.

Is there a minimum order

No minimum. One rate covers the first 2 kg, so a small order and a 2 kg order cost the same to send.
