Taxes, Customs Duties & Tariffs

Customs Duties by Country

When your Kiwi Kandy order crosses an international border, your country’s government may charge customs duties, import taxes or tariffs. These are not set by Kiwi Kandy and are not included in our prices.

DHL handles customs clearance for you — here’s what to expect in the most common destinations.

United States

A 10% import surcharge currently applies to most goods from New Zealand entering the US, regardless of order value. DHL collects this on or before delivery.

This is a temporary surcharge (Section 122) introduced in February 2026. Rates are subject to change — check with DHL if you’re unsure about current rates.

Australia

Generally duty-free for most food products under the NZ–Australia Closer Economic Relations (CER) agreement. 10% GST applies to imported goods.

For orders under AUD $1,000, GST is collected at checkout. Above AUD $1,000, it’s collected at the Australian border.

Canada, UK & Europe

Canada

GST/HST and possible customs duties depending on order value and product type.

United Kingdom

Most NZ food products enter duty-free under the UK–NZ Free Trade Agreement. 20% VAT applies on the value of goods plus shipping for orders above £135.

European Union

VAT varies by country (typically 17–27%) plus possible import duty. Collected by DHL on delivery.

How DHL Handles It

  1. Your parcel arrives in your country.
  2. DHL processes the customs entry.
  3. If duties or taxes apply, DHL contacts you with the amount.
  4. You pay DHL directly (online portal or on delivery).
  5. Parcel is released and delivered.

DHL will contact you before delivery with any duties owed. Payment must be made to DHL before they can release your parcel for delivery.

For Asia, Middle East and other regions — thresholds vary by country. Check your country’s customs website for current rates.
